American Experience: Bombshell
A feature length doc for
The American Experience on PBS, this
was an interesting experiment. Though I
am credited as one of the editors, this was really a consulting job. I supervised an inexperienced editor
throughout the entire process, sending detailed notes from big ideas to tiny
trims.

“Bombshell is an outstanding production, featuring gripping and often gruesome imagery, a compelling narrative, and first-rate expert analysis… Bombshell is an important and worthwhile production. The filmmakers illuminate the fraught relationship between government and the press at a moment when Washington is once again tightening its grip on fundamental freedoms with an intensity not seen in decades. This film makes clear how much can go wrong when press freedom erodes.”

“Bombshell… contains lessons for our own age of ascendant AI. 'It has never been the habit of the scientists of this country or the policy of this government to withhold from the world scientific knowledge,' said President Harry S. Truman. That is something Bombshell establishes wasn’t true in 1945, and might very well not be now.” –Wall Street Journal
