Poetry in America: Season 1 – Ginsberg
Bono, poet Juan Felipe Herrera, and a chorus of religious practitioners
explore the power of ritual to control and soothe in two of Allen
Ginsberg’s most affecting religious poems.
The challenge with all the Poetry episodes is that TV is a linear medium and poetry is not - ideas and images repeat or reveal themselves in unexpected places. We try to create a structure for each show that respects the shape and meaning of the work but is comprehensible for a TV audience seeing the poem for the first itme.
Directed by Elisa New, Produced by Leah Reis-Dennis
Aired on PBS April - May, 2018
